ABA Leeds (Association of Blind Asians) is a charity organisation (Charity no: 1042621) delivering specialist support to people from diverse communities with visual impairments, as well as their carers and families. Since the ABA was founded in 1989, we have focused on preventing sight loss and increasing the confidence and independence of our service users so that they are able to lead independent lives.

Our organisation was set up to support South Asian individuals coping with sight loss. As we have developed as a client-centred support service, ABA has broadened to provide comprehensive services to visually impaired people across the diversity of existing communities.

We are seeking to appoint passionate and reliable individuals for the following positions. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and identities.

Women's Wellbeing Worker

 Hours: 15 hours per week 

Salary: £24496 (Actual: £9930.00 pa for 15 hours)

 Annual Leave: 24 days (includes 3 occasional days) plus 8 public holidays for staff working 37 hours per week (pro-rata for part-time workers) 

 Location: Leeds office-based

 Closing Date: 30th April 2025 

 Interview Date: 8th May 2025 

 Starting date: ASAP

 Contract to: End of March 2028

 Purpose of the Job: The primary objective of this project is to urgently support our women service users in addressing the pressing cost-of-living crisis they are currently facing

  1. Providing activities to help them build confidence.
  2. Raising awareness of the cost-of-living crisis and the available support services.
  3. Improving financial stability.
  4. Enhancing the mental health and well-being of our service users.

     

  Duties and responsibilities:

  • To provide high-quality, customer-focused advice and advocacy support to people living with and affected by sight loss.
  • To organise activities and services that empower service users and support strengthening their financial resilience. 
  • To deliver activities that assist and support their mental well-being.
  • To set up, run and facilitate activities i.e booking venues, liaise with facilitators, arrange refreshments etc 
  • To collaborate with local charities and agencies to deliver sessions on debt management, financial management, and so forth, raising awareness of the cost-of-living crisis.
  • To assess financial needs /support needs of new and existing service users and refer them to an appropriate service
  • To support women in overcoming the financial challenges of the cost-of-living crisis and its impact by providing one-to-one assistance. 
  • To manage a caseload of individuals to facilitate access to suitable community-based interventions and refer/signpost individuals to appropriate services according to their needs.

By signposting our members to other organisations, our service users are able to receive additional support outside of our areas of expertise, which provides them with relevant help and the right time.
