ABA Leeds (Association of Blind Asians) is a charity organisation (Charity no: 1042621) delivering specialist support to people from diverse communities with visual impairments, as well as their carers and families. Since the ABA was founded in 1989, we have focused on preventing sight loss and increasing the confidence and independence of our service users so that they are able to lead independent lives.
Our organisation was set up to support South Asian individuals coping with sight loss. As we have developed as a client-centred support service, ABA has broadened to provide comprehensive services to visually impaired people across the diversity of existing communities.
We are seeking to appoint passionate and reliable individuals for the following positions. We welcome applications from all backgrounds and identities.
Strategic Development Programme Consultant
We are seeking an experienced Consultant/s to support our Strategic Development plan and delivery. This role is vital in helping us achieve our goals and shaping future growth, which we believe will be rewarding for the right candidate. We are looking for someone with extensive knowledge of the charity sector and local insight, ready to take responsibility and lead initiatives.
Person Specification
Qualifications and Experience:
- A degree in a relevant field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Social Work, or related disciplines).
- Proven experience in the charity sector, particularly in areas such as feasibility study, stakeholder consultation, strategic planning, or program development.
- Experience working with diverse communities and knowledge of cultural sensitivity.
- A broader understanding of Leeds, its communities, and its diversity.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex
- information clearly and effectively.
- Strong analytical skills to assess organisational needs and develop appropriate strategies.
- Project management abilities, with a track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with database management systems.
Personal Attributes:
- Passion for social justice and commitment to improving the lives of individuals from marginalised communities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with clients, stakeholders, and partner organisations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of clients and the sector.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to travel within the region as required for engagements and to deliver project objectives.
- A commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated on sector trends and best practices.
- Understanding of digital platforms and social media as tools for fundraising and community engagement.

- Your location and listing last three consultancy work / work experiences
- Relevant skills and experience against the project requirements
- Two references
- DBS status
We are open to dividing the role. For candidates who would like to apply to deliver specific aspects or elements of the project, please state clearly what you can deliver in your EOI.
We will assess the EOIs and invite shortlisted candidates for interviews. We encourage early applications, as we will review submissions while the advertisement is open.
You will also need to provide proof of professional indemnity insurance and your DBS certificate upon appointment.
Fee: £50 per hour, 240 hours for both Phase 1 and Phase 2 (this will be pro rata if the role is shared)

Are you looking for a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to use your skills for good? The Association of Blind Asians (ABA), a well-established Leeds-based charity dedicated to sensory impaired people, is expanding its Board and inviting applications for new Trustees.
Help us promote and improve the quality of life for over 400 South Asians with sight loss in Leeds. We’re a registered charity established in 1989, currently growing and transitioning to a CIO.

Charity Law & Legislation
Digital Marketing
Fundraising
This is a voluntary role (expenses reimbursed), requiring up to 4 hours per month and quarterly meetings in Leeds. We welcome diverse candidates, especially those passionate about sight loss and living/working in or near Leeds.
