South Asian Heritage Month 2025

On Wednesday, August 13th, 2025, ABA Leeds proudly hosted a vibrant celebration for South Asian Heritage Month. The event brought together over 170 service users, caregivers, and guests, creating a joyful atmosphere filled with culture, creativity, and community spirit. This celebration honours the inspiring journeys of individuals and diverse communities from the South Asian continent, creating a better future for the next generation.

Inspiring Speakers

The day featured inspiring talks from community leaders and guest speakers who shared powerful messages about heritage, identity, and unity. E.g Leeds City Councilors i.e Cllr Asghar Khan spoke about to be the voice for people who are not often heard, Cllr Eileen Taylor spoke about South Asian and their contributions to the city especially in the field of social care, Lord Javaid and DL. Dr. Sofia Buncy spoke about changing roles of women in society and their importance in leadership. Their words reminded us of the importance of celebrating our shared histories and building stronger, more inclusive communities.

Cultural Performances & Poetry

Guests enjoyed a diverse range of cultural performances, featuring traditional music and dance that highlighted the richness of South Asian heritage, presented by our service users, volunteers, and various community groups. Poets also took to the stage, including service users, with a touching poem delivered by a mother and daughter duo. Their performances conveyed powerful and thought-provoking pieces that emphasised lived experiences and cultural pride.

A Feast to Remember

No celebration is complete without food, and our guests enjoyed a delicious spread of authentic South Asian cuisine. The meal brought people together, sparking conversations and connections over shared tastes and traditions.

A Celebration of Community

The event was more than a gathering, it was a celebration of diversity, resilience, and community spirit. The energy in the room reflected the pride and joy of South Asian heritage, and the warmth of everyone who attended.

Looking Ahead

This year’s celebration was a tremendous success, and we are committed to making next year’s South Asian Heritage Month event even bigger and better. Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported, and contributed. We couldn’t have done it without you.
