National Eye Health Week

National Eye Health Week September 2022 was dedicated to increasing awareness of the importance of eye health by ABA Leeds.

The week began with our flagship event at the Hamara Healthy Living Centre. This was a particularly busy event for us with over 50 new attendees, several external stallholders (including Breaking Down Barriers, William Merritt Centre, Optelec and NHS Ophthalmology), activities from Ping Pong 4 U, and even a visit from the Lord Mayor (at that time) Robert W Gettings MBE JP and Councillor Gohar Almass.

Following this, we managed to make it to Leeds Beckett Student Union’s Freshers Fairs on Tuesday and Wednesday. This was a particularly exciting opportunity to engage with young people  and other students of Leeds!

On Wednesday, we attended the annual Sight Village for the first time in several years! This was such a fantastic opportunity to meet different visually impaired people, national charities and care workers of Leeds.

On Wednesday, our Manager Debbani and our Support Worker Azra were also able to speak to our friends at Fever FM live on air about what we do and why it is so important. You can listen here from timestamp 11:00 onwards.

Finally, we wrapped up the week with a staff and managing committee meeting at the Mustard Pot, it was great to eat some lovely food and talk about some of the things that were important going ahead!

Bring on National Eye Health Week 2023!
